These NEXT_PUBLIC_ variable is very annoying and very misleading. I have to repeat to the team few times that’s not a replacement of runtime configuration that will get inject to client side when the service start but it’s happened in the build time.
There’s a small note in NextJS document but seriously, it should be put in red color and flashing making people realize these are variable that will put in the client side at build time!
